Combine sugar, margarine and cocoa; beat well.
Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add soda and salt to buttermilk.
Add milk to sugar mixture alternately with flour; add vanilla.

Bake in layer pans at 350Β° for 30 minutes or until cake is firm.
