In a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish, combine peanuts, sugar, syrup and salt. Cook for 8 minutes in microwave on High. Stir well after 4 minutes. After the 8 minutes, stir in the butter and vanilla; cook for 2 more minutes on High in microwave. Add the baking soda and quickly stir until light and foamy. Immediately pour the mixture onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Spread the mixture out until very thin. After it has cooled, break into small pieces and store in an airtight container. Makes about 1 pound. You have to keep it hidden if you want some for yourself.
