Grease and flour 9-inch ring mold generously.
Make cake mix according to package directions.
Fill pan half full.
Bake at 350° for 30 minutes; unmold while hot.
While the cake is baking, mix grenadine, water and rum.

Purée and heat apricot preserves; spread over cake.
Sprinkle with finely chopped candied fruit.
Serve with whipped cream.
