Maraschino Party Cake

Sift together cake flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
Add shortening, cherry juice, cherries and milk.
Beat 2 minutes by clock.
Add 1/2 to 2/3 cup unbeaten egg whites (4 large eggs). Beat 2 more minutes.
Pour batter into two 9-inch cake pans.
Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350Β°.
