Cook or boil pared potatoes until tender; drain.

In a large bowl mash with a potato masher or beat with electric mixer on low speed. Add sour cream, cream cheese, 1 tablespoon margarine or butter, salt, pepper and thyme.

Turn into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole.

Cover with foil and chill up to 24 hours.
