Made from Scratch Applesauce
Made From Scratch Applesauce is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3 lb. apples (like galas or mcintosh), 1 cinnamon stick or 1 tsp. ground cinnamon, 2-inch vanilla bean, halved lengthwise, 2 strips lemon zest and 1 1/2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice or to taste, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Wash apples and cut in half; remove stems and cores, but leaves skins intact.
Place in a large pot.
Add cinnamon, vanilla, lemon zest, juice, sugar, wine and water.
Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer, covered, until apples are soft.
Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Remove and discard cinnamon stick and vanilla bean.
PurΓ©e apples and pan juices in a blender for a smoother sauce or process for a chunky texture.
Makes eight servings.
