Place onion and 2 tablespoons butter in a small pan. Cook until tender. Stir in flour, salt, mustard and pepper.
Cook for 1 minute. Slowly stir in milk and cook, stirring until smooth.
Add 3/4 of the cheese.
Pour macaroni in a dish.
Pour cheese sauce over macaroni. Top with remaining cheese.
In a pan over low heat, melt 1 tablespoon margarine.
Stir this into the bread crumbs and sprinkle this over the cheese. Bake, uncovered, for 20 minutes in a 400Β° oven.
