Cream together the shortening and sugar until fluffy.

Add 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1/2 cup buttermilk, salt and flavoring.

Beat 2 minutes.

Add eggs, one at a time, beating 2 minutes after each egg.

Add 1 1/2 cups of flour to batter.

Mix 1/2 teaspoon of soda in remaining buttermilk and add it to flour mix.

Beat 2 minutes. Pour into tube pan that has been greased with vegetable oil.

Bake at 325Β° for 1 hour.
