Laura Ingalls Wilder's Gingerbread
Laura Ingalls Wilder'S Gingerbread is an impressive dinner. Made with 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1/2 c. lard or shortening, 1/2 c. molasses, 2 tsp. baking soda and 1 c. boiling water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.
Blend sugar with lard.
Molasses blended with baking soda in boiling water.
(Be sure cup is full of water after foam is fun off into mixture.)
To flour, add spices and salt.
Sift all into cake mixture and mix well.
Add eggs.
The mixture should be quite thin.
Bake in a moderate oven for thirty minutes.
