Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.
Cream shortening; add sugar gradually and unbeaten egg.
Beat well.
Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to first mixture.
Pour into greased oblong pan.

Bake at 375Β° for 20 to 25 minutes.
Break in pieces and serve warm with butter.
