Cream sugar and butter. Beat eggs and vanilla together.

Add to creamed mixture; add dry ingredients and water.

Drain and fine chop beets; stir into batter. Pour into 2 (8-inch) lightly greased and floured pans. Bake 30 to 40 minutes at 350Β°. Cool. Fill with cherry pie filling between 2 layers and frost with cream cheese frosting. Chill and serve.
