Sift the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt into a large bowl. Stir in the apples, nuts, butter and lightly beaten eggs.
Mix ingredients thoroughly together.
The batter will be very thick.
Transfer to greased pan.
Bake in a 350Β° oven until cake springs back at touch, about 1 1/4 hours.
Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream.
