French-Toasted Cheese
French-Toasted Cheese is an easy dinner. Made with 2 slices whole wheat bred, 1 slice muenster, swiss, monterey jack or american cheese, 1 large egg and 2 tsp. butter or margarine, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Make a sandwich with the bread and cheese, trimming cheese to neatly fit bread if necessary.
Beat egg lightly in shallow dish. Dip sandwich into egg, turning bread to coat both sides.
Fry sandwich in butter in skillet, over medium heat, until lightly browned on both sides, about 1 minute.
Gently press down sandwich as it cooks to melt cheese.
Serve immediately or wrap in aluminum foil to eat on the run within 30 minutes.
