French Onion Bread
French Onion Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 pkg. dry yeast, 1/2 c. warm water, 2 tbsp. shortening, 1 1/2 c. hot water and 3 tbsp. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.
Soften yeast in the warm water.
In a large bowl, combine shortening and hot water.
Add the sugar, salt and soup mix and stir well.
Add yeast mixture.
Gradually add the flour to make a stiff dough.
Knead on a floured board until smooth and elastic. Let rise in a warm place until double in bulk.
Punch down and let rise again 1/2 hour.
Shape in 2 loaves; it makes nice round ones in 8-inch cake pans.
Let rise until light and bake 35 to 40 minutes at 375Β°.
