Four Square Pudding

Remove crusts from bread, spread slices with butter.
Cut into squares and arrange in layers in an 8-inch greased baking dish. Sprinkle each layer with raisins and bran.
Beat egg yolks.
Add 2 tablespoons of the sugar, nutmeg, milk and flavoring.
Mix thoroughly and pour over bread.
Bake in oven at 350° for about 35 minutes.
Cover with meringue made of stiffly beaten egg whites and remaining sugar.
Bake in slow oven at 300° about 20 minutes or until meringue is lightly browned on top.
