Sift together in a large bowl flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cream of tartar.

Cut in buttermilk until bits are the size of medium peas.

Mix in milk only until ingredients are blended.

Do not overmix.

Form into a ball.

Pat out on floured board to 3/4-inch thickness.

Cut into biscuits using 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.

Place on ungreased cookie sheet or in a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.

Bake at 475Β° for 10 minutes or until golden brown. Yield: 10 biscuits.
