Mix 1 cup sugar, egg yolks, flour, milk, butter and vanilla. Pour into unbaked pie shell and bake at 450° for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 325° and bake for about 25 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Remove from oven and top with meringue.
