Butter a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
Trim crusts from bread, then butter.
Lay in bottom of baking dish.
Sprinkle bacon over bread.
Combine eggs, milk, cheese, salt and pepper; pour over bread.
Let sit for 1 hour or overnight.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 to 35 minutes, until puffy and brown.
