Date Cake
Date Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. chopped dates, 1 c. boiling water, 1/2 c. shortening, 1 c. packed brown sugar and 1 egg, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Mix dates with boiling water and cool to lukewarm.
Cream shortening and brown sugar.
Add egg and vanilla.
Beat well. Combine with dates.
Add flour, salt and soda.
Beat well.
Bake in greased 13 x 9-inch pan at 350Β° for 35 to 40 minutes.
Top with broiled icing.
