Cracker Jacks
Cracker Jacks is an easy dinner. Made with 2 lard cans popped popcorn (two 5 gal. cans), 8 lb. sugar, 2 lb. butter, 1 gal. white karo or king syrup and 1 tsp. cream of tartar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Mix all ingredients, except cream of tartar; boil together until it reaches hard crack on thermometer, about 310Β°.
Stir in cream of tartar and pour over popcorn.
Mix well, then put on greased table top and press down to make it flat.
As soon as cooled, put in tight containers to keep it from becoming sticky.
