Combine raisins and water in small saucepan; bring to boiling; remove from heat.

Cover; cool to room temperature.

Beat shortening and sugar well; beat in eggs and vanilla.

Blend flour mixture into shortening mixture until smooth.

Add cooled raisins and liquid and oats.

Mix well.

Cover bowl; chill at least 1 hour.

Drop cookies from teaspoons onto lightly greased cookie sheets, about 2 inches apart.

Bake in oven at 350Β° for 10 minutes or until evenly brown.

Transfer at once to wire racks to cool. Store in container with tight fitting lid.
