Heat oven to 425Β°. Grease 8-inch cast-iron skillet.
Mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.
Add and beat until smooth the eggs, melted shortening and milk.
Pour into heated skillet and bake 20 to 25 minutes until brown.
