Sift together sugar and flour.
In saucepan, bring to a boil shortening, water and cocoa.
Pour over flour mixture while hot. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla.
Bake in large cookie sheet with sides (greased and floured).
Bake in 400Β° oven for 20 minutes.
While cake is baking, make frosting.
