Chocolate Mound Cake
Chocolate Mound Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. sugar, 4 eggs, separated, 1 bar german chocolate, 1 c. buttermilk and 1 tsp. vanilla, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.

Preheat oven to 350°.
Cream shortening and sugar.
Add egg yolks, one at a time.
Melt chocolate in boiling water; add to creamed mixture.
Dissolve soda in 1/4 cup milk.
Alternately add flour and milk to first mixture.
Add vanilla and salt.
Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
Makes 6 layers.
Bake in 350° oven for 30 minutes.
Make two kinds of frosting.
