Cream Crisco with sugar; add eggs (unbeaten). Dissolve soda in hot water; add to first mixture. Sift flour, salt and baking powder, then add nuts and chocolate chips.
Combine all ingredients. Drop on cookie sheet in small amounts. Bake at 400Β° for 10 to 12 minutes.
