Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, one at a time.
Sift flour, cocoa and salt three times.
Dissolve soda in buttermilk; add alternately with flour to sugar-butter-egg mixture.
Add vanilla. Bake in 3 or 4 layers in a 325Β° oven for 25 minutes.
