Drain fruit.

Combine 2/3 cup syrup of each of the fruits in a saucepan.

Add orange juice and grated rinds; simmer uncovered until reduced by half.

If too sweet, stir in the juice and 1/2 lemon.

Transfer to top of double boiler.

Add drained fruit and dates and cook for about 15 minutes.

An electric frying pan can be used for the dish.

When ready to serve, transfer to chafing dish and serve hot.

Yields 8 to 10 servings.
