Pop corn and put into a large roaster or pan.

Remove all unpopped kernels (if you value your teeth).

Melt margarine; add syrup, sugar, vanilla and salt.

Bring to a boil and boil for 5 minutes (a good rolling boil).

Add soda and pour over popcorn. Mix with a wooden spoon and toast in oven for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes in a 200Β° oven.
