Put clove of garlic in bottom of each jar. Then cover with small layer of kraut. Clean banana peppers. Stuff with little kraut or either whole Li'l Smokies or pieces of hot dogs. Then pack in jars. In each jar, add 3/4 teaspoon sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons pickling salt and 1 teaspoon alum. For 8 quarts of pickles, put 2 quarts white vinegar and 2 quarts water in a pan. Bring to a boil. Pour into jars. Seal with lids. Process 10 to 15 minutes in hot water bath. You could use pint jars. Just use half of each thing the recipe calls for. Makes nice gifts.
