California Chocolate Brownies
California Chocolate Brownies is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 c. light corn syrup, 2 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted, 2 eggs, well beaten and 1/2 tsp. vanilla, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Cream shortening until fluffy.
Gradually beat in corn syrup until thoroughly mixed and light and fluffy.
Stir in melted chocolate.
Add eggs and vanilla.
Sift together cake flour, baking powder and salt.
Add 1/4 cup at a time to creamed mixture. Fold in nuts.
Pour into well-greased 8-inch square pan.
Bake in moderate oven (350Β°) 30 to 35 minutes or until slight imprint remains when touched lightly with finger.
Set pan on rack to cool completely, then sprinkle with powdered sugar and cut into 2-inch squares.
