Mix together the sugar, butter, salt, vanilla and egg.
Add the buttermilk-soda mixture with flour to first mixture.
Mix just enough to be able to handle the dough.
Roll out and cut. Sprinkle with sugar; place on cookie sheets.
Bake in a 400Β° oven until brown.
