Beat together the shortening, sugar and vanilla at high speed until mixture resembles ice cream.
Thoroughly beat in the eggs one at a time.
In a pint measuring cup mix buttermilk and soda.
The flour into the creamed mixture alternately buttermilk mixture, until smooth.
Turn into
10-inch tube pan.
Bake in preheated oven at 325Β°
1 hour and 20 minutes or until tester comes out clean.
Do not oven oven door.
