Combine all ingredients except nuts and flavorings.
Use a large heavy kettle.
Stir only until sugar is dissolved.
Turn heat low and continue cooking until soft ball is formed in cold water or until it reaches 235Β° on candy thermometer.
The candy gradually browns.
Remove from heat.
Stir in nuts and flavorings. Beat until slightly thickened and pour into 8-inch square greased pan.
