Burnt Sugar Cake
Burnt Sugar Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. brown sugar, 1/2 c. boiling water, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2/3 c. butter and 2 eggs, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.
Scorch brown sugar until quite dark.
Add boiling water; cook until it forms thick syrup; set aside and let cool.
Cream sugar and butter; add egg yolks.
Sift flour, soda and baking powder. Mix sugar mixture with flour mixture.
Add cold water; mix well. Add burnt sugar mixture.
Fold in beaten egg whites.
Bake in 2 layers.
