Cream together brown sugar, shortening and egg.
Sift together salt, soda and flour.
Add the two mixes together with 1/2 cup milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
Drop by teaspoonfuls on a cookie sheet and bake 12 minutes at 350Β°.
Remove promptly when done.
Makes 3 to 4 dozen.
