Brown Bread

In a large bowl, sift together dry ingredients.
Add beaten egg and buttermilk and stir into a soft dough.
With floured hands, knead dough lightly and quickly into a ball.
Shape dough into approximately a 7-inch round and place in a 9-inch pie plate. Cut a deep cross into the dough.
Bake in a preheated oven at 400° for 25 minutes and then lower the oven temperature to 350° for an additional 25 minutes.
