Rub 1 tablespoon butter on bottom of 1-quart baking dish. Overlap potatoes in 3 layers, sprinkling each layer with a little salt.
Half and half over potatoes, just enough to cover them. Dot top with remaining 1 tablespoon butter (optional).
Bake at 325Β°
In middle of oven for 45 minutes.
