Beat together sugar, shortening, eggs and banana.
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and soda. Stir into creamed mixture. Beat until smooth. Add nuts. Pour into greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350Β° for 60 to 70 minutes or until it tests done.
