Mix and sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt.
Beat shortening until creamy.
Add sugar gradually and continue beating until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition until fluffy.
Add nuts and beat well.
Stir in vanilla.
Add flour mixture and alternate with bananas and milk a small amount at a time, beating after each addition until smooth. Turn into a well-greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch cake pan.
Bake at 350Β° until done, about 55 minutes.
