Soak the bread in cold water for about 1 hour.
Squeeze out as much of the moisture as possible and mix the bread with currants, raisins, sugar, nutmeg or lemon rind, melted butter, beaten eggs and milk.
Turn into greased pie dish and bake for 1 1/2 hours at 325° to 350°.
