Aunt Bill's Microwave Candy

Use a microwave container which holds at least three times the amount of ingredients, or it will boil over.
Combine sugar, soda, buttermilk and butter.
Cover with plastic wrap; punch holes in wrap to allow steam to escape.
Microwave on Roast (70% of power) for 15 minutes.
Stir; continue cooking on Roast for 13 to 15 minutes, until soft ball forms in cold water or 236Β° on candy thermometer.
Do not put thermometer in microwave.
Add vanilla; beat with electric mixer until soft peaks form.
Watch closely! Add nuts and pour into a buttered 8 x 8-inch dish.
Cool; cut into pieces.
