Blend butter, 1/2 cup sugar and egg yolks.
Work in flour.
Lightly flour hands and pat into well-greased 7 1/2 x 11 1/2-inch baking dish.
Bake 15 minutes. Remove from oven and spread evenly with preserves.
Beat egg whites until foamy; gradually beat in 1/3 cup sugar.
Continue beating until peaks form, then fold in nuts.
Spread carefully over preserves.
Return to oven and bake 25 minutes.
Cool and cut into bars.
Makes about 16.
