Applesauce Cake Squares
Applesauce Cake Squares is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 1/2 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate, 1/2 c. butter or margarine, 1 c. firmly packed brown sugar, 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce and 2 eggs, beaten, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.

Place unsweetened chocolate and butter in a heavy saucepan over low heat; stir until chocolate melts.
Set aside.
Combine sugar, applesauce, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl; mix well. Combine flour, baking powder, soda and salt; add to applesauce mixture, stirring well.
Stir in chocolate mixture.
Spoon the batter into a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 minutes.
Cool completely.
Top with Nutty Coconut Frosting; cut into squares.
Yields 1 1/2 dozen.
