Applesauce Cake
Applesauce Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 2 c. sugar, 1 large egg, 1 1/2 c. thick applesauce and 2 tsp. soda, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Cream shortening and sugar together.
Add egg and blend in applesauce.
Sift together several times the flour, salt, cinnamon, cloves and allspice.
Dissolve soda in 1/2 cup boiling water and add to dry ingredients.
Mix all ingredients together well and pour into a long cake pan.
Bake at 350Β° for 35 or 40 minutes.
Does not need to be iced.
Will stay moist and fresh as long as there is a piece left.
