Heat oven to 350°. Spread apple filling evenly in an ungreased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
Sprinkle half of cinnamon over apple filling.
Pour dry cake mix evenly over apples so it covers the entire apple filling.
Sprinkle remaining 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon over cake mix.
Sprinkle walnuts over top; drizzle melted butter over entire pan.
Bake in 350° oven until top is golden brown, about 55 minutes.
Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes.
Top with vanilla ice cream, if desired.
