Apple Squares
Apple Squares is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 1/2 c. flour, 1 tbsp. sugar, 1 tsp. salt, 1 c. shortening and 2 eggs, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Mix flour, sugar and shortening as for pastry.
Beat 2 egg yolks in a cup and add milk to make 2/3 cup.
Add to first mixture and mix well.
Roll half of dough; put in slightly greased jelly roll pan.
Sprinkle 1/2 cornflakes on the crust.
Slice the apples and place them on the cornflakes.
Sprinkle rest of cornflakes, sugar and cinnamon over apples.
Dot with a few pats of oleo.
Cover with the rest of rolled pastry.
Beat the egg whites until stiff and spread over crust.
Bake for 1 hour at 350Β°.
While still warm, dribble with small amount of powdered sugar frosting.
When cool, cut into squares.
May use other fresh fruit.
