Thinly slice the apples and set aside.

In a small roaster, combine water and sugar.

Put roaster on stove burner and heat until sugar dissolves.

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and oil or shortening.

In cup, beat the egg and add enough milk to make 1 cup. Add to mixture in bowl. Place mixture on floured surface.

Press dough with hands evenly to about 1/2-inch thick.

Place apples on dough. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll dough up around apples. Cut into sections.

Place sections in roaster. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake at 350Β° until golden brown.

Serve warm with milk and sugar and salty ham slice or bacon on the side.
