Apple Bars
Apple Bars is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 1/2 c. flour, 1 c. shortening, pinch of salt, 1 egg, separated and milk, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.
Mix flour, shortening and salt.
Beat egg yolk; add milk to make 2/3 cup.
Mix like pie crust.
Divide dough in half.
Roll out 1/2 the dough, place in greased cookie sheet.
Layer with cornflakes.
Cut apples, mix with cinnamon and sugar.
Put this mixture on top of cornflakes.
Dot with butter.
Place second half of dough which is also rolled out, on top of apples.
Beat egg white, spread on top.
Bake at 350Β° for 1 hour or until nice and brown.
Glaze while hot with a mixture of powdered sugar and water. Make into thin paste.
If apples are juicy, add 2 tablespoons of flour to mixture.
