Sift flour and 1/2 cup sugar together 4 times.
Mix egg whites, cream of tartar, salt and flavorings with beater until soft peaks form.
Add the remaining sugar in 4 additions; fold the flour mixture into the egg whites.
Turn into an angel food cake pan and bake at 375Β° for 35 to 40 minutes.
