Dissolve yeast in warm water.
Sift together all dry ingredients; cut in shortening.
Add yeast and buttermilk to dry ingredients. Knead dough enough to hold together. Roll dough 1/2 or 1/4-inch thick; cut with biscuit cutter.
Place on lightly greased sheet; let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 450Β° for 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
